Resurfaces gently. Hydrates deeply. The AHA that works without the irritation.

Sale price$96
50mL

Exfoliating is crucial for glowing, smooth skin. Removing dead skin cells makes the skin more radiant and helps vitamins and moisturisers absorb better. That's why Super Soft pairs Lactic Acid, the gentlest AHA, naturally hydrating as it exfoliates with soothing actives that leave the barrier stronger, not stressed.

WHY SUPER SOFT?
  • Our most gentle exfoliant contains lactic acid (a mild AHA) and gently exfoliates, removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover.
  • This results in a softer, more even complexion, potentially reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Enriched with hydrating ingredients like glycerin and Hymagic-4D, which contain multiple hyaluronic acid derivates, it maintains skin moisture and prevents dryness.
  • Experience the rejuvenating benefits of our Lactic Acid Exfoliant for a flowing, youthful appearance.

Methodical recommends leave-on chemical exfoliants over harsh scrubs for their gentle, gradual effect, protecting the skin barrier.
Incorporate it into your routine to reveal smoother texture, renewed clarity, and a luminous glow that builds with every use.

BENEFITS
  • Gentle Exfoliation - Lactic acid gentle clears dead skin cells without irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does lactic acid do for the skin?

A lactic acid exfoliant is a gentle alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) treatment that dissolves dead skin cells on the surface, improving texture, brightening dullness, and supporting smoother, more even-looking skin. Unlike stronger acids, lactic acid also attracts moisture, helping maintain hydration while exfoliating. At Methodical, our leave-on exfoliants create a clear base for the products applied after.

Is lactic acid safe for sensitive or reactive skin?

Yes, when formulated correctly. Lactic acid is one of the gentlest AHAs, exfoliating while attracting moisture, which reduces dryness and irritation risk. Methodical's leave-on lactic acid exfoliant is balanced with Advanced Hyaluronic Acid Complex, Panthenol, Allantoin, Bisabolol, and skin-identical lipids and fatty acids to support hydration, strengthen the barrier, and minimise potential irritation when used as directed.

How strong is this lactic acid exfoliant?

This lactic acid exfoliant is clinically balanced and gentle, designed as a leave-on treatment rather than a harsh scrub or peel. It delivers effective exfoliation to smooth texture and brighten skin while remaining suitable for regular use. Methodical focuses on the right concentration and supporting ingredients, so the exfoliant works efficiently without overwhelming skin or compromising the barrier.

How often should I use a lactic acid exfoliant?

Start by using a lactic acid exfoliant 2–3 times per week, then gradually increase frequency as your skin builds tolerance. Because lactic acid is a gentle AHA, many skin types can work up to daily use over time.

Will lactic acid help with dullness or uneven texture?

Yes. Lactic acid helps improve dullness and uneven texture by gently exfoliating dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This promotes smoother texture, brighter-looking skin and a more even complexion. By creating a clear, refined skin surface, lactic acid also allows the products applied afterwards to absorb more effectively and perform at their best.

Can lactic acid help with pigmentation or dark spots?

Yes. Lactic acid can help improve the appearance of pigmentation and dark spots by gently exfoliating the skin and encouraging cell turnover. This helps fade surface discolouration over time and supports a brighter, more even-looking complexion. With consistent use, lactic acid also creates a clearer skin surface, allowing targeted brightening ingredients applied afterwards to work more effectively.

Does lactic acid sting, and is that normal?

A mild tingling/sting sensation is normal when first applying lactic acid, especially if you’re new to exfoliants. This should be gentle and temporary, settling within a few minutes. Strong stinging or burning is not expected and may indicate overuse or sensitivity. If that occurs, pause use and allow the skin barrier to recover.

Can I use lactic acid with retinol, Vitamin C or niacinamide?

Yes, with Methodical, you can. While many brands recommend separating these actives, Methodical’s formulations are designed to work together as a system. Our lactic acid exfoliant is carefully balanced with barrier-supporting and soothing ingredients, allowing it to be used alongside retinol, Vitamin C and niacinamide without overwhelming the skin.

This integrated approach helps maintain skin comfort and barrier health, while still delivering the benefits of each active.

Should I avoid lactic acid if my skin is dry or dehydrated?

Not necessarily. Lactic acid is one of the most hydrating AHAs, making it suitable for dry or dehydrated skin when formulated correctly. It gently exfoliates while also attracting moisture, helping improve texture and dullness without excessive dryness.

With Methodical, lactic acid is paired with hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients, making it safe to use on dry or dehydrated skin to refine the surface while maintaining comfort and balance.

Does lactic acid make skin more sensitive to the sun?

Yes. Like all AHAs, lactic acid can make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure because it exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells. This reveals fresher skin underneath, which is more vulnerable to UV damage.

When using lactic acid, it’s important to apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily and limit direct sun exposure.

Will this exfoliant cause purging?

It can, but not for everyone. Lactic acid may cause mild purging when you first start using it, as it increases cell turnover and brings existing congestion to the surface more quickly. This usually appears as small breakouts in areas where you typically experience congestion and should settle within a few weeks.

Because Methodical’s exfoliant is gently formulated and barrier-supported, purging (if it occurs) is typically minimal.

How long does it take to see results from lactic acid?

You may notice a smoother texture and increased brightness within 1-2 weeks of using lactic acid. More visible improvements in tone, clarity and overall skin refinement typically appear after 3-4 weeks of consistent use, as the skin completes its natural renewal cycle.

How does Methodical keep this exfoliant gentle yet effective?

Methodical formulates its lactic acid exfoliant with a skin-first, barrier-supportive approach, balancing exfoliation with hydration and barrier care rather than relying on high acid strength alone. The formula pairs lactic acid with Advanced Hyaluronic Acid Complex, a Soothing Shield for Irritation, and skin-identical lipids and fatty acids to refine texture while keeping skin comfortable, resilient, and balanced.
